No Lessons for Summer

Dear Cello Students
Thank you for working to get your solos ready for recital and String Festival. I was proud of all of you.  I hope you can learn from these experience and from the comments given on judges forms.  If you did not feel good about your performance or got a rating you are not pleased with, please do not get discouraged.   Lets work to see how we can do better next year.
I appreciated the week off from lessons last week and now hope we can work hard on new music, technique and shifting exercises that have been ignored.  I will go over String Festival Judging Sheets.
I am so grateful for all my students and appreciate your patients with me.  I have taken on more students this past fall and winter than I have ever had.   It has been a learning experience for me.  I have had to manage a busy schedule as well as continue taking care of my family.   I acknowledge and realize that I was not always on top of my game.
I usually do not stop teaching during the summer because students get too far behind.  The break from school is a great time to focus more on your instrument.  I like to get started on new challenging pieces so students can have a good start on them   before school starts.  It is a great time to review but also push ahead to learn many new things with more practice time available.
Sad to say I am going to take a break or vacation from teaching cello this summer.  I feel strongly that my family needs me and I want to spend time with them.  I will be gone for a week the end of May with my son who is graduating from High School.  My husband and I are overseeing a youth conference in June, and then my family is traveling on a 10  day trip the end of June  into the first of July.   I am thrilled to have all 7 of my children together for this trip and then I hope to be sending my 18 year old off on an LDS mission the end of the summer or early fall.   I will continue through 3 week of May and will start again the week before school the 2nd week of August.   We will have
3  lessons – March , 2 lessons – April, 3 lessons - May : TOTAL 8 LESSONS                   No lessons April 3-7 (Having Puppies, Orchestra of Southern Utah Concert)              No Lesson April 17 – 21  Iron County School District SPRING BREAK
I TOTAL understand if you want to ENCOURAGE YOU take lessons this summer with a different teacher.  Some are college students and love to teach for summer and may not be available in the fall.
Nina Hansen will be returning home from China in June. – 435-590 -6463
Lacy Woods –435-668-5032                                        Nikki – 435-251-7045
Mathew Erhard – 314-250-8238                         Clara Whittaker – 435-237-7118

If you do not take lessons this summer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU ATTEND THE BRYCE CANYON MUSIC WORKSHOP JUNE 5- JUNE 10  or any other work or music summer program that will motivate you to practice.  You need to keep practicing during the summer and so try to find opportunities to perform (Church, a family reunion, talent show)
